Isis- Egyptian Deity
Isis
Isis is a deity of Egyptian mythology. In the period of the Roman Empire, she had become the most predominant deity in the Mediterranean area. Her name translates into "throne". In hieroglyphics, she is represented as a woman with the hieroglyphic sign for "throne" on her head, either sitting on a throne or holding her child, Horus, or kneeling in front of a coffin. Often times, she is also represented holding a lotus. She is said to be a goddess of magic, and after her resurrection, she was considered more powerful than one thousand soldiers. In mythology, she was the sister AND wife of Osiris, whom Seth was jealous of and planned to kill. She is the divine mother of all Pharaohs in Egypt, and of Egypt itself. She is the goddess of Motherhood and fertility.

Re: Isis- Egyptian Deity
Few deities come closer to embodying THE Goddess (as in the absolute archetype of Goddess nature and not just one aspect of Goddess nature) than Isis. Its good that you touched on her importance to motherhood, because she is a very powerful mother archetype. I did not know her name meant throne Neat tid bit
Re: Isis- Egyptian Deity
She is by far one of the most well-known of all Goddesses. She has always resonated deep within me. I've always been drawn to the Egyptian pantheon, as well as the Greek. The Egyptian pantheon fascinates me more than all the others, as of now. Interestingly enough, all the Egyptian gods and goddesses we know are actually the Greek names given to them, not their original Egyptian name. For example, Thoth's(one of my favorite gods) original Egyptian name was Tehuti, if I am not mistaken.
